Jesus, did you see me struggling?

(Lenten thoughts)

The Questions We Don’t Always Say Out Loud

Let’s be honest for a moment.

Did Jesus really suffer for us?

Did He truly see the depth of evil that still exists in the world today?

Did Jesus Christ actually become flesh, experience the full weight of the human condition, and still complete every part of God’s mission perfectly?

And if all of that is true…

why do we still wrestle with doubt?

Maybe it’s because it feels so far away.

It happened so long ago that it can feel disconnected from our everyday lives.

But the deeper question is this:

How did He remain sinless His entire life… when we struggle to stay consistent for even 40 days? 40 seconds…

When Scripture Hits Hard

In Epistle to the Hebrews 5:11–14 (NLT), it says:

“There is much more we would like to say about this, but it is difficult to explain, especially since you are spiritually dull and don’t seem to listen. You have been believers so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God’s word. You are like babies who need milk and cannot eat solid food. For someone who lives on milk is still an infant and doesn’t know how to do what is right. Solid food is for those who are mature, who through training have the skill to recognize the difference between right and wrong”

That’s a tough passage.

It calls out something real:

many of us have been believers for a long time, yet we’re still stuck in spiritual infancy.

Still needing milk.

Still struggling to consistently choose what is right.

The Reality of the Human Condition

Let’s bring it into real life.

Our flesh is weak—our thoughts, our cravings, our habits.

Integrity sounds like a nice word but in practice… not so easy!

Integrity in this generation seems like an out of reach mission.

“I was going to do that, but…” And then comes the excuse.

We break promises to ourselves before we ever break them to anyone else.

So no—this isn’t about tearing you down.

It’s about telling the truth:

We are weak.

Jesus saw that.

Why Jesus Still Chose the Cross

In the garden, before the cross, Jesus saw the full weight of human weakness.

He saw:

  • our inconsistency

  • our hidden sin

  • our struggle to forgive

  • our tendency to choose ourselves over God

  • evil that plagues this world

And still—He chose obedience.

He sustained the mission.

Not just for you…

but also for the people who hurt you/ cursed you/ backstabbed you

Mercy: The Standard We Often Avoid

We talk a lot about grace.

But mercy? That’s harder.

Epistle to the Hebrews 4:16 reminds us:

“For judgment is without mercy to one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.*

And Epistle of James 2:13 says:

“Mercy triumphs over judgment.”

That changes things.

Because it forces us to ask:

  • Did I actually forgive that person?

  • Or did I just say I did?

  • Did I show mercy… or hold onto quiet resentment?

So cry out to God for mercy knowing that God’s mercies are new everyday and that His mercy triumphs over judgement.

Loving Your Enemies Is Not Optional

This is where it gets uncomfortable.

Did you bless the person who hurt you?

Did you extend mercy to the one who spoke against you?

It’s easy to say we follow Jesus.

It’s harder to live like Him.

Because Jesus didn’t just love the kind people.

He loved His enemies too.

Faith Isn’t Inherited—It’s Lived

Witchcraft, warlocks, sorcerers, these are modern day Magi, who convert from darkness and seen great light of Jesus. They know fully

what it means to be forgiven… and to forgive.

While others who grew up in faith can sometimes miss that urgency.

Either way, the call is the same:

  • live it

  • practice it

  • grow in it

If you are still lost…

Pray:

Lord,

Give me eyes to see and ears to hear what I need to receive in these words in Jesus name, amen.

Open Scripture and read:

Take notes, Ask Holy Spirit to help you.

The Bible doesn’t fail when it’s approached with honesty.

Prayer, Fasting, Healing and Making Space for God

Prayer and fasting aren’t just rituals.

They’re about:

  • repentance

  • surrender

  • real connection

We know how to go without food.

But are we actually making space for God to speak?

Or are we doing all the talking?

Final Thought

Jesus didn’t just understand the human condition.

He entered into it fully— and overcame it.

So if you’re doubting, struggling, or feeling inconsistent…

You’re not disqualified. He calls the inadequate and equips the ones who wants to complete the mission.

But you are invited to grow.

And it starts with honesty, mercy, and making room for Him to meet you right where you are.

Thanks for reading and reflecting!
